The field of Obstetrics and Gynecology nowadays covers a wide age range, including pediatric and adolescent gynecology, antenatal (pregnant) patients, gynecologic patients (non-pregnant), patients with hormonal disturbances, subfertility (difficulty conceiving), cancer patients, and more. Dr. Jaykar Gandhi’s role is to first support patients morally, make them aware of their condition, assist in accurate diagnosis, and manage the condition either medically or surgically, with the ultimate goal of overall patient satisfaction. Dr. Gandhi has more than 20 years of experience in this specialty. Dr. Gandhi’s areas of expertise include laparoscopic surgeries such as total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH), laparoscopic myomectomy, laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy/dermoid cyst removal, and treatment of endometriosis. Dr. Gandhi also has extensive experience in vaginal hysterectomy (VH), which is a true scarless surgery. A case of undescended uterus with complete procidentia, a history of cesarean section, and prior vaginal surgeries, including posterior and anterior cystocele repair. Additionally, Dr. Gandhi has wide experience in abdominal surgeries, including cases with 4-5 previous cesarean sections, abdominal hysterectomy in patients with multiple previous laparotomies, and abdominal myomectomy in cases of fibroids equivalent to 28 weeks or more gestation. Dr. Gandhi is trained in managing primary subfertility cases, including those involving PCOS and endometrioma. Regarding delivery, Dr. Gandhi is well-trained in managing high-risk pregnancies, including pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, thyroid disorders during pregnancy, and pregnancy complicated by jaundice. Dr. Gandhi is always available for emergency surgeries such as unruptured or ruptured ectopic pregnancy, or emergency cesarean sections at any hour due to maternal or fetal indications or abnormal cardiotocography (CTG). With the latest advancements in imaging technologies such as ultrasound and MRI, diagnosing diseases early has become much easier. Laparoscopy allows removal of diseased organs or parts without opening the abdomen. Vaginal surgeries also offer the advantage of being truly scarless. Dr. Gandhi has performed thousands of surgeries through all three routes — abdominal, vaginal, and laparoscopic. Cervical and uterine cancers are the 3rd and 4th leading causes of cancer-related death worldwide. Dr. Gandhi has performed numerous surgeries for grade 1 and grade 2 cervical and endometrial cancers in patients diagnosed early through screening programs.
